Say hello to Caspian the Norwegian Fjord foal! This handmade plushie stands about 36 cm tall and has a stockier body build compared to my other horse plushies. It's semi-posable, meaning that It's able to alter between basic standing and sitting positions. It's made in a lifelike style, using extra short rabbit style fur, and features many intricate details, such as fully handsewn markings, realistic hooves and a detailed muzzle with actual nostrils. There's even a cute little pink tongue, that can be tucked away inside the mouth. All in all this plushie is made from a whopping 140 individual pieces, most of which are handsewn!
About the breed:
The iconic looking Fjord horse originates from the mountainous regions of western Norway, where it has been used as a hard working farm animal for hundreds of years. The Fjord horse counts among the world's oldest and purest breeds. Its ancestors were used by the Vikings as war mounts, and its roots can be traced back even further, to the ancient wild horses that roamed the area thousands of years ago. Despite being of draft horse type, the Fjord horse is a fairly small and nimble horse with a friendly temperament. It's popular among children and adults alike and can be used both for riding and driving.
Fjords are always dun colored and sport a full-length dorcal stripe, along with other primitive markings. The multicolored mane is typically clipped in a tiered crescent shape, that makes it stand upright and highlights the stark contrast between the light outer hairs and dark middle stripe. Foals are born with pale coats and more or less visible markings. The markings grow more distinct over time, as the foal grows older and sheds its baby coat. Caspian features the light coloration and markings of the baby coat.
This lifelike looking plushie will be recreated upon order. As with all items in my store, Caspian was originally designed by me and will also be reproduced by me. He will be made in an environment free of cigarette smoke and perfume, but not entierly pet free as I have cats.
Caspian's body will be made from three shades of super soft rabbit style faux fur with a pile length of 7 mm. The mane and tail will be made by combining two or three different shades of high quality faux furs with a pile length of roughly 50 mm. Short pile minky will be used for the furry parts of the muzzle and upholstery grade velour for the tongue. The hooves and the insides of the nostrils will be made with synthetic suede, a fabric that is made to resemble brushed leather and has a soft feel to it. The bottom of the hooves will be created from a combination of faux suede and embroidery, in order to give them detail and dimension. The plushie will be fitted with 12 mm plastic safety eyes, which are lined with black imitate leather to improve their shape and to make the expression more lifelike. The ears will be fastened with 14 mm plastic safety eyes, allowing them to move. Foam inserts, plastic and fabric membranes will be added in places to lend shape and stability. The legs will be sealed off from the rest of the body, allowing them to be stuffed firmly enough to carry the weight of the the body, while the rest of the plushie is stuffed more lightly. Plastic beads will be added to add extra weight to the hooves.
This plushie is best used as an ornamental piece for indoors decoration purposes. It's not suitable as a toy and should be kept away from young children and pets at all times. It can be used for play with older children if handled gently. Keep in mind though, that this is an artist doll. It's a work of art and not a toy. The plushie can't be washed if it gets dirty and may easily get damaged.
