Item Description:

Meet the chibi pangolin. This peculiar plush is covered almost completely by scales. Sitting upright with its tail gently curving around its side and arms outstretched, this black eyed cutie looks like its waiting for you to hug it. But beware, those digging claws won't want to let you go again!

This little guy will be made upon order and is available in six different colors. As with all items in my store, the chibi pangolin was designed by me and will also be reproduced by me. A lot of effort and care goes into making a chibi pangolin. Particularly into the scales, which are all cut by hand and carefully fitted, before they are glued onto the body. Once finished this plush will stand about 14 cm tall and be covered from top to toe by roughly 300 scales.

Origin:

The chibi pangolin was designed with the purpose to raise money and to bring awareness to live pangolins and the dire situation they are facing.

It is modeled after the elusive pangolin, a little known nocturnal animal, also known as scaly ant-eater. It is the only mammal in the world to be covered by tough keratin scales instead of fur.

The pangolin relies heavily on its scales for protection and curls up into a tight ball to ward off large predators like lions or tigers. Sadly this strategy doesn't work against humans and the pangolin has become easy pickings for poachers. Pangolin numbers are plummeting, as their scales and body parts are sold on the Asian black market. It has become the most trafficked mammal in the world and is in dire need of help to avoid extinction.

How ordering this item helps pangolins:

Whenever I sell one of my pangolin related crafts 36% of that item's base price is set aside to be donated to the IUCN-SSC Pangolin Specialist Group upon order completion. For a chibi pangolin this translates into a donation of roughly $70.

If you want to, you can add extra value to the donation by selecting a different donation size from the drop down menu. This will enable me to make a larger donation on your behalf. Increasing the donation size is at your own expense and will be added to the base price.

The donation will be made by me as soon as I've finished your order and have shipped it. You will receive a digital copy of the donation receipt along with your parcel's tracking information.

Materials, production and dispatch:

This plush will be made in an environment free of cigarette smoke and perfume, but not entierly pet free as I have a cat.

The whole plush will be made from faux upholstery suede, a reinforced fabric that is made to resemble brushed leather and is soft to the touch. Once the body has been sewn it will be stuffed with siliconized polyester fibers. The plush will then be fitted with black glass eyes that measure 10 mm across. The eyes are fastened with wire loops and are of none-safety standard. Once this has been done, the scales will be added to the body using water based universal glue.

Making a chibi pangolin usually takes me 1-3 weeks, but I may need longer, depending on how busy I am at the time of the order. Once finished the plush will be shipped within 2 workdays.

Usage:

This plush is purely for ornamental or educational use. It is to be kept away from young children and pets at all times!

Keep in mind that;
_*  wire loop eyes can be torn off with relative ease.
_*  glass eyes may chip or crack if handled recklessly.
_*  excessive handling will cause the edges of scales and fingers to fringe.
