This handmade red silver bay horse plushie stands about 36 cm tall and is semi-posable, meaning that it is able to alter between basic standing and sitting positions. It is made in a lifelike style and is made from super soft rabbit style fur. It has a petite body build and features many intricate details, such as fully handsewn markings, feathered legs, realistic hooves and a detailed muzzle with actual nostrils. There's even a cute little pink tongue, that can be tucked away inside the mouth. All in all this plushie is made from a whopping 146 pieces, most of which are handsewn!
The colors and markings of this blue-eyed plushie were inspired by Epona, a much beloved horse from the Zelda game-series. The main body color is a rich reddish-brown with dark brown bay markings. The legs are feathered and have white stockings. The forehead is adorned by a pointed blaze that extends up to the forelock. The base of the tail is dark brown, followed by a brief transition to a lighter shade of brown. The rest of the tail is the same pearly white color as the mane.
Although Epona herself is a fictional horse of unknown breed, there is a real life equivalent for her coloration and basic markings, known as a Red silver bay, or a Silver bay taffy in Australia. The bay coat pattern by itself is very common in most horse breeds. A standard bay horse has a reddish-brown or brown body with black point coloration on the lower legs, ear edges, mane and tail. The silver trait affects all the areas that are pigmented black, causing the fine hairs of the body to be dark brown instead of black. The effect is even more noticable on the coarse hairs of the mane and tail, which are diluted to a flaxen, white, or silvery blonde color, often featuring darker roots.
This highly collectible plushie will be recreated upon order. It will be made in an environment free of cigarette smoke and perfume, but not entierly pet free, as I have cats. As with all the items in my store, this plushie was originally designed by me, and it will also be reproduced by me. A lot of time and effort goes into making a detailed plushie like this. Particularly into the head and feet, which contain many tiny parts and internal structures, but also into handsewing the markings. Once finished, this plushie will stand about 36 cm tall and measure around 40 cm from nose to butt.
The body will be made from super soft rabbit style faux fur, with a pile length of about 10 mm. The mane and tail will be made with 70 mm long faux fur that has a wavy texture. A miniature version of the same style of fur will be used for the feathering on the legs. Short pile minky will be used for the furry parts of the muzzle and upholstery grade velour for the tongue. The insides of the nostrils and hooves will be made with synthetic suede, a fabric that is made to resemble brushed leather and has a soft feel to it. The bottom of the hooves will be created from a combination of faux suede, thick felt and embroidery, in order to give them detail and dimension. The plushie will be fitted with 12 mm plastic safety eyes, which are lined with black imitate leather, thereby improving their shape and making them look more lifelike. The ears will be fastened with plastic safety joints, allowing them to alter position. Foam inserts and fabric membranes will be added in places to lend shape. The legs will be sealed off from the rest of the body, allowing them to be stuffed firmly enough to carry the weight of the the body, while the rest of the plushie is stuffed much more lightly. Plastic beads will be added to add extra weight to the hooves.
This artist made plushie is intended for use by teenagers or adults. It is incredibly rare and highly collectible, as it has only been created once up to this point. It is best used for indoors decoration purposes and/or as a photo prop. The quality of the plushie is such, that it is unlikely to break from gentle play, or the occational hug, but it is not a toy. It was never created with play or excessive handling in mind, and should be kept away from young children and pets at all times. The plushie can not be washed if it gets dirty, without risking marker bleed-through or quality changes to the fur. The tiny details of the muzzle and feet are also very susceptible to damage.
Creating a detailed plushie like this usually takes me 3-4 weeks, but I might need longer, depending on how busy I am at the time of the order. The finished plushie will be shipped in a sturdy and fully trackable box, using the services of PostNord, GLS or CoolEurope.
