Say hello to Tambo the heavily striped dun horse! This handmade plushie stands about 36 cm tall and is semi-posable, meaning that it is able to alter between basic standing and sitting positions. It is made in a lifelike style, using super soft rabbit style fur, and features many intricate details, such as fully handsewn markings, realistic hooves and a detailed muzzle with actual nostrils. There's even a cute little pink tongue, that can be tucked away inside the mouth. All in all this plushie is made from an eye-watering 226 pieces, most of which are handsewn!
Tambo isn't modelled after any particular horse breed. He is a bay dun with a petite body build, and shows a multitude of primitive markings. Bay dun is the oldest known horse color. It pre-dates all modern day horses by millions of years, and has been the default coat pattern throughout much of equine evolution. Dun horses can be any of the four base horse colors, but appear lighter in color, due to the diluting effect of the Dun gene. They always have a dorsal stripe, and show varying amounts of other primitive markings, such as striping on the legs and shoulders, dark facial markings, webbing, reverse dappling and a multicolored mane and tail. These highly diverse markings are thought to act as camouflage.
This highly collectible plushie is available for purchase. It has been made in an environment free of cigarette smoke and perfume, but not entierly pet free, as I have cats. As with all the items in my store, this plushie was originally designed by me. A lot of time and effort goes into making a detailed plushie like this. Particularly into the head and feet, which contain many tiny parts and internal structures, but also into handsewing all the markings. Tambo stand about 36 cm tall and measures around 40 cm from nose to butt.
Tambo's body is made from three shades of super soft rabbit style faux fur, with a pile length of about 10 mm. The mane and tail are made from two shades of high quality faux fur with a pile length of roughly 60 mm. Short pile minky has been used for the furry parts of the muzzle, and upholstery grade velour for the tongue. The hooves and the insides of the nostrils are made with synthetic suede, a fabric that is made to resemble brushed leather and has a soft feel to it. The hoof bottoms are made from a combination of thick felt, faux suede and embroidery, giving them detail and dimension. The plushie has been fitted with 12 mm plastic safety eyes, which are lined with black imitate leather to improve their shape and to make them more lifelike. Plastic safety joints have also been used to fasten the ears, allowing them to alter position. Foam inserts, plastic and fabric membranes have been added in places to lend shape and stability. The legs are sealed off from the rest of the body, allowing them to be stuffed firmly enough to carry the weight of the the body, while the rest of the plushie is stuffed more lightly. Plastic beads have been added to the hooves for extra weight.
This artist made plushie is intended for use by teenagers or adults. It is incredibly rare and highly collectible, as it has only been created once up to this point. It is best used for indoors decoration purposes and/or as a photo prop. The quality of the plushie is such, that it is unlikely to break from gentle play, or the occational hug, but it is not a toy. It was never created with play or excessive handling in mind, and should be kept away from young children and pets at all times. The plushie can not be washed if it gets dirty, without risking marker bleed-through or quality changes to the fur. The tiny details of the muzzle and feet, as well as the seams along the stripes are also very susceptible to damage.
